Lisses is a small district just outside of Paris, France.[1] It is located in a suburban area. It is known as the hometown of parkour.[2] It is widely believed that both parkour and free running originated here, as a result of the founders of both these disciplines spent their childhoods there.

[edit] Form

One of the reasons that it is thought that the original free running group, the Yamakasi, originated there, is the geometric forms of Lisses. Like many Parisian suburbs, the buildings are largely built with many right angles, and straight concrete structures. This is an optimum condition for creating an interesting and structured location for free running, one of the reasons why many practice it in urban areas, as opposed to rural.
